As BYD and Lucid EVs spread across Saudi Arabia — especially Seal, Han, and Air Dream — many new owners are entering the home charger world for the first time. This guide focuses on practical choices in Saudi and the common installation mistakes we see.

BYD in Saudi Arabia: Type 2 port

All officially imported BYD vehicles in Saudi Arabia (Seal, Han, Atto 3, Dolphin) come with the standard Type 2 port and accept up to 11 kW three-phase AC or 7 kW single-phase AC on home chargers. BYD offers its own OEM charger, but most owners prefer universal options like Wallbox for cheaper parts and faster local service.

Lucid Air: bigger battery, bigger charger

Lucid Air Dream and Grand Touring ship with 88–118 kWh batteries — larger than most EVs on the road. That means a 7 kW charger takes 14–16 hours for a full charge. We strongly recommend a 22 kW three-phase charger for Lucid owners to cut charging to ~5 hours. Lucid officially supports Type 2 in Saudi Arabia.

OEM or universal charger?

BYD and Lucid OEM chargers sometimes ship with the car as an optional accessory. The main issue in Saudi: if the OEM charger fails after warranty, replacement parts can take weeks. Universal brands (Wallbox, Phoenix Contact, ABB) are widely available and local engineers can swap parts in days.

For imported EVs without local warranty, pairing the charger purchase with EV extended warranty in Saudi Arabia from EVS is a practical safety net — covering battery, motor, and charging system for one to three years.

Important: three-phase isn't always available

Most villas in Riyadh and Jeddah run on single-phase electricity. A 22 kW charger requires three-phase. Before buying a big charger, have an electrician inspect the main panel. If your home is single-phase, a 7 kW charger is the right choice without expensive utility upgrades.

Quick takeaway

For BYD owners: a 7 kW universal Type 2 charger covers most homes. For Lucid owners: seriously consider 22 kW with three-phase. In both cases, book a free site survey with a certified installer before buying so you know the exact cost and the charger that best fits your car and your home.
